Mockery in the Abyss
Acrylic painting
A reimagining of The Scream, this piece reflects the subtle strength and quiet bravery found in childhood. The kind of courage that believed stuffed animals were guardians of the night. Set against a similar swirling bridge and chaos as Munch's original, however, the difference is that the girl does not scream. She stands steady, unafraid, and facing what is coming towards her from the other side of the bridge. Even as laughter echoes and faces leer from the shadows, she holds her rabbit and watches the world with an unshaken calm. The abyss mocks her, but she does not scream.
This piece is a tribute to my younger self, whose quiet bravery outshines my own today, and who lit the first spark of my lifelong love for horror and the thrill of being brave.
